Flightless Bird, American mouth
So there is this song that I love by this group called Iron and Wine. The song is called "Flightless Bird, American Mouth. Listen....read the lyrics...scroll down, I shall continue.
I was a quick wet boy, diving too deep for coins
All of your street light eyes wide on my plastic toys
Then when the cops closed the fair, I cut my long baby hair
Stole me a dog-eared map and called for you everywhere
Have I found you
Flightless bird, jealous, weeping or lost you, american mouth
Big pill looming
Now I'm a fat house cat
Nursing my sore blunt tongue
Watching the warm poison rats curl through the wide fence cracks
Pissing on magazine photos
Those fishing lures thrown in the cold
And clean blood of Christ mountain stream
Have I found you
Flightless bird, grounded, bleeding or lost you, american mouth
Big pill stuck going down
So. What did you think? I personally love this song. I have absolutely *no* idea what most of the lyrics mean, and I'm fine with that because I feel like the music its self helps bring that out. The chords in the singing and even the accordian in the back ground create this sense of longing and reaching that just hits my soul. I feel like this song is about searching for what we need/want/have lost, and the journey that looking for it takes us on. The words don't need to make sense--in fact--the song would mean less if they did. If they meant something, they would be about one man's journey to discover what he wants/needs. Because the lyrics don't quite make sense and don't apply to anything, they can apply to everyone---represent the "every-man."
Now maybe I'm wrong. Maybe this song is a satirical punch to our political system, or a harsh call out on religion. But that's not what I've gotten from it. I'll take what I want, and as long as it makes me better, who cares if I'm right? Because I certainly think I am, and that's all that matters.
Thanks for reading, Team. let me know what you think!

Some Ranting- By Me
Okay team, here is a fantastic confession. I love the state of Washington. It is basically everything I think a place to live should be. Rainy, green, and cloudy. It's weird, but I'm not the biggest fan of the sun. It's super bright and has the potential to hurt you, which isn't too great on the whole "awesome" scale. I don't tan, I only freckle. I don't enjoy being hot and sweaty, just inside with the AC on. I also love green. Which is the *exact* opposite of Rock Springs. Rock Springs is a deceiving name. You think, because it has the word "Spring" in it, it should be a beautiful oasis with lovely flowers and just pretty-ness everywhere. Well. You're very wrong. The operative word in the name is "Rock." As in "Nothing but rock" or "Gee, this place doesn't rock." I mean, school is great. The professiors are nice. The classes are very educational. But it's all missing the three "must-haves" for a good school---Location, location, location. And the weather here is odd. Lately it's been warmer than Utah, in a super-windy-blowing-snow-that-fell-last-week sort of way. When it isn't deceivingly warm, it's snowing like nobody's business. And believe me, snow + wind = misery. 'Tis no fun, my good man. Imagine living in a place where you can fall asleep to the sound of rain on the roof every night; a place where you almost never have to water your lawn to get a beautiful emerald green color because Mother Nature does it for you. In all honesty, friends, I have only ever been to Washington once, but I loved it. It was probably one of the most relaxing places I've ever been to in my entire life I hope you've enjoyed my ranting and raving. I certainly have. Here-enjoy more pictures.

Dear World,
Applying for scholarships in a school that is far away is stressful. How far away you ask?
6 hours 3 minutes in travel time,
407.36 miles to drive,
$29.01 in gas.
That is very far, my friends.
And it's stressful.
Hurray for the theater.

Recent goings on....
So, I've a new layout. It's sort of different, but I'm in a "Missing Rob" mood tonight. Why do I miss Rob? Only because I just watched the second episode of season 4.5 of the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica, and I wish he could have watched it with me.
But I did watch it with my dad via text message, which was royally awesome, btw.
Battlestar Galactica is probably the best show on television. It has an *amazing* cast, compelling characters, and fantastic plots. Sometimes things don't go the way you want them (the episode previous to tonight's is the perfect example) but in the end there is always something that has made it worth watching.
My only disclaimer about the show is some of it's content. Sometimes fast-forwarding is needed because the show's target audience is un-married, relationship-less nerds who have nothing better to do than watch a somewhat immodest human-looking-cylon-robot-lady on tv.
But I love it.
When I was picking a new layout, I actually wanted a BSG one, but it doesn't exist. Which makes me sad. Maybe if I had the patience to learn HTML properly I could make it, but I don't. I think I learned about that for a total of ten minutes and then gave up. Rob disparages of me. But if anyone reading this is super good at HTML and wants to make me a BSG layout, I wouldn't complain...
By the way! The URL of my blog needs some clarification. It's "bsgbaby.blogspot.com," which looks like I'm saying I'm some sort of cutesy Battlestar Galactica fan who's just adorable...which is not my intention. What I want it to mean is like "Uh! Yeah! That's right! Battlestar Galactica BABY! WHOOO!!!" I hope that makes sense. And I hope all the judging of my URL stops. Because I'm no baby....And no one puts Baby in the corner...
I just watched that movie last night. Even though Patrick Swayze isn't too attractive in the face, he has a nice body. And I wouldn't mind if he danced with me like that. Well. Maybe I would. Rob definitely would.
I love blogging my train of thought.
And now my train is telling me it's time to stop at the...port?....dock?....station! That's it. I'm tired.
By the way, cute story. I was teaching the six year olds in primary one Sunday, and upon introducing my name, a little boy named Thomas informed me that "Emily" is the name of a train on "Thomas the Tank Engine" and I got the impression that I should be honored.
And I was.
Goodnight all!
Drop in and let me know what you think of my blog! :D
Love, Emily
P.S. Some one let me know if I used "disparages" in the correct way....thanks friends! -EP

Some sort of re-vamp...
So...I seriously hate the way my blog looks...so I've reverted to an older layout only because the other one was so ugly I couldn't even look at it long enough to blog anything. And I hate the name now...so. Hopefully this is a re-vamp of sorts. And I need a new name for this thing. Anyone...?

Pictures
So I'm doing the fourth picture in the fourth folder of your pictures folder thing...but I sort of cheated. The first time it wasn't even a picture that had anything interesting in it. So after counting to four in many different ways...I came up with this one!
I love this picture. It was the first day my Aunt Christine and I were in London and I was miserable. I had not slept or eaten anything on the ten hour plane ride there and I was just dehydrated and just...feeling terrible. Anyways. I believe this was taken from the National Museum of Art at sunset. Which sounds so romantic. I want to go back to Europe. Now that I've done it once, I think I could do it again with better results. Not that I didn't love it the first time. But I'd like to love it from the beginning, not partway through. I love it now that I'm thinking about it. How about more pictures that I think are artistic and pretty? Okay, you say.
So this picture was taken at Chatsworth in England. Chatsworth is the estate that they believe Jane Austen's Pemberly was based off of (Pride and Prejudice), and it's beautiful. The gardens are wonderful, and if my camera hadn't of died, I would have even better pictures, but it died. Anyways. They were having a modern art exhibit throughout the entire estate, so some really beautiful views were ruined by Chinoolie's (how however you say it) or random fake white tree things. But this one was cute. I didn't realize there was a cute little Asian couple sitting in the shot until I was home remembering! And if you zoom into the picture, there is a mother duck and her ducklings walking across the fallss...they are around where the grass starts appearing behind the tress on the left side, but you might not be able to see them.
This is from the Keira Knightley "Pride and Prejudice". It's a gorgeous statue in real life and I just love it. Talk about my awesome photography skills. There were so many beautiful statues in this wing of the house, but again, the modern art thing screwed it up by putting a wax figure of some famous woman sunbathing herself in a bikini. I totally thought she was real for a little bit. But then I realized no one could be that disfigured. So...yeah. That lady was ugly and fake.
Unlike this lady. Who is beautiful and granite...or some other really awesome stone. Would you look at the intricacy of that veil over her face? No run of the mill joe could do that Some really talented person had to. I just wish I knew him and was his friend.
Well, I had more, but I'm tired. I was driving across Utah and into Wyoming from 11 am to 10 pm today. Almost twelve hours. Sleep time my friends. I love you guys.
Oh. And I tag anyone who read this. Suckers.

Mandy...

Well I've always loved him in "The Secret Garden" as Archibald Craven. I mean, Lily was/is my dream role. And he plays her opposite. And he's beautiful on the CD of the show.
But the other night, at my friend Taylor's appartment, we watched a fantastic show. "Sunday in the Park with George." I don't know how many of you are familar with this show, but it's about Georges Seurat when he was painting Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. And Mr. Patinkin is glorious. If you have never heard this show, go find it now.
Just...trust me. You'll love it.
Also in this show is the wonderful Bernadette Peters. Now I have had my healthy respect for this lady, and every theater student should. She's fantastic. But after seeing her in this, I LOVE her. Her voice, which has sounded annoying and ugly to me before is actually beautiful and stirring. In songs like "We Never Belonged Together" and "Move On" she is just haunting. I just love her.
So there you go. The two goals of my life are to sound like Burnadette Peters and sing a duet with Mandy Patinkin. I just...don't even know. But there is my current obsession.
I love you all for reading this.
And I'll love you more for knowing this show!
